It's no mystery that Nickelodeon is aware that Spongebob Squarepants has become a bottomless pit for internet memes, and they have released a lot of material celebrating the internet's love for Spongebob from figures to special featurettes recreating scenes. What's interesting is that a new episode of Spongebob has referenced the creepypasta, Squidward's Suicide.

Here's the clip:

Just in case you didn't know, Squidward's Suicide was a creepypasta that came out back in 2010, and it supposedly details a story of a Nickelodeon intern who was able to watch an unaired episode of Spongebob which had Squidward killing himself (along with some other disturbing images spliced into the episode).

You can read the full creepypasta here, and it also comes with this eerily disturbing video—with the same image that was referenced in the cartoon:

Like I said, the marketing department for Spongebob Squarepants has made it clear that they know all about the show's internet fame, and this is probably the first time that something from the internet has boomeranged its way into the show. We don't know how much more of these are incoming, but as long as Nick is planning to air Spongebob, it's likely more references are going to find their way into the animation department.
