I think it's safe to say that not a lot of fans were expecting much from Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and admittedly, I was one of those people but the 2018 animated film blew all of our expectations out of the water and it turned out to be one of the best superhero releases of that year. Unsurprisingly, the Oscar-winning flick was immediately greenlit for a sequel, and for all we know, Into the Spider-Verse's unprecedented triumph may have been responsible for convincing Marvel Studios to begin working with its own multiverse.
In fact, the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home co-produced by Marvel Studios and Sony has been heavily rumored to feature an epic team-up between Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire. Now, the animated blockbuster's characters will most likely not appear in the film but what if Spider-Verse's Peter B. Parker finds himself in Earth-616 in live-action form?
Digital artist @venomhology is toying with the idea of bringing Peter B. Parker to the live-action scene and according to him, the character should be portrayed by Brooklyn Nine-Nine actor Andy Samberg. I gotta say, he'll definitely make a good live-action version of an old and washed-up Spidey although my money is still on Tobey. Check out the image here:
Speaking of No Way Home, a lot of fans and insiders are still convinced that the film will indeed feature Maguire and Garfield reprising their wall-crawling roles despite Marvel and Sony's denial. Personally, I'm positive that it will in fact happen because they can't blow a golden opportunity like this. A Spidey crossover film needs to happen and now's the perfect chance to do it.
Meanwhile, Sony's Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 will hit cinemas in 2022.
