Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Originally Had More of Miles’ Roommate Ganke

If there is one thing fans had to complain about in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it was the lack of characterization for Miles' roommate Ganke. The character is seen several times in the film, even finding out that Miles has spider powers, but he never talks nor is he given any time to shine, aside from that brief moment where we see him listen to Start a Riot, which was a cute moment.

When asked on Twitter about Ganke's future in Spider-Verse, Phil Lord, the film's co-writer and executive producer, revealed that he was originally going to have a bigger part. However, when Spider-Man: Homecoming essentially used the Ganke character and named him Ned Leeds (ugh), they decided to scrap his story and save it for a sequel.

To be fair, the film was pretty darn great when it came out so Ganke probably wasn't needed but it's a shame that he wasn't used much. Homecoming is a good movie and all but it wouldn't kill anyone if they kept the character's name instead of making him "Ned" for some reason. This ticked off a number of comic book fans since "Ned" kept a lot of Ganke's personality traits, like playing Lego.

Hopefully, he gets more time to shine in the sequel, which will not only focus on Miles and Gwen but Spider-Man 2099. No actual details on the next film have been revealed but if it's given the same amount of love as the first, it should be worth the wait.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse may or may not be showing in theaters. Expect a Blu-Ray release in the near future.
