Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Originally Had Another Marvel Hero Making a Cameo

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is currently the best-reviewed Spider-Man movie to date, with many critics even saying that it's the best film to feature the wallcrawler. As the title and trailers have suggested, this is a movie filled with different interpretations of the iconic Marvel character and a number of his villains, including Green Goblin, Scorpion, and Prowler. However, there was originally going to be another Marvel hero in the movie.

According to Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the two originally wanted Doctor Strange to appear in the movie. The directing duo told Den of Geek that the film's first draft would have ended with an appearance from Strange but that was likely removed so that the feature could focus on Miles, Peter, Gwen, and the other Spiders.

"It ended with him saying, 'Okay, I have some things to tell you. It was the first draft, like three years ago. It ended with Doctor Strange. Literally, the last frame was Doctor Strange, going, 'Hello.'"

This might seem like a strange choice (hehe), but the two characters have more in common than you might realize. Both heroes were made by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, the latter of whom only fathered a few noteworthy characters for Marvel. They both also use similar hand gestures when shooting webs and making spells so that's kind of neat.

We did see these two characters interact during Avengers: Infinity War, with the Sorcerer Supreme being annoyed Spider-Man. It made for a cute segment and it could be ripe for exploration in the future. Both characters are expected to return after Avengers: Endgame so they could always team up again.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse comes out on December 14.
