Spider-Man: Sony Developing Hypno-Hustler Movie, Donald Glover Attached to Star

Sony has been working on expanding its Spider-Verse franchise with more live-action films based on the villains in the Spider-Man library with characters such as Venom, Morbius, Kraven the Hunter, and many more. Now, it looks like another character is getting the same treatment and it's someone that you might not expect.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony is developing a Hypno-Hustler movie as part of their Spider-Verse franchise. Donald Glover is attached to star and produce the film. Myles Murphy, iconic comedian Eddie Murphy's son, is writing the screenplay.

Hypno-Hustler made his debut in the Spider-Man comics back in 1978 when the disco music scene was at its peak. The character's real name is Antoine Desloin, the lead singer of the band Mercy Killers. He uses hypnosis technology in his instruments on his audience in order to rob them.

Fans know that this isn't Glover's first hurrah in the Spider-Man franchise. He voiced Miles Morales in two episodes of the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series back in 2015. He also played Aaron Davis in the Tom Holland-led Spider-Man: Homecoming which is part of the MCU.

The report indicated that the actor got his interest in the project due to the character's musical aspect which could get interpreted as a re-imagined modern hip-hop version or a cyberpunk future play instead of channeling his disco origins.

So far, the plot details are being kept under wraps, or whether it will end up having a crossover with the other Spider-Verse characters. Since the announcement, there have been speculations that he could be part of Sony's Sinister Six alongside the other previously-announced villains.

For now, the project is still in early development so it might take a while before we'll hear another significant update about it. At the very least, while Glover's turn into the Prowler in the MCU didn't work out, he has another Spider-Man project that he can actually star in.
