There is little doubt that Flash Thompson isn't a particularly nice guy in the Spider-Man trilogy but he's not necessarily a bad guy, either. In Spider-Man: Far From Home, it is revealed that Peter Parker's classmate is just a kid who is largely neglected by his wealthy parents. Interestingly, the revelation was actually pitched by actor Tony Revolori.
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Flash Thompson was one of the students who went on a European school trip with Peter Parker, and it turns into a huge disaster for the class. Through it all, Flash is shown constantly trying to contact his parents and when he is finally picked up, he is visibly disappointed that they had only sent the driver to collect him.
Interestingly, that scene wasn't part of the original plan. Tony Revolori has confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter that he pitched Flash's sad story.
"What’s really funny is I’m the one who pitched it. I’m the one who kind of made it happen," he said. "In Far From Home, when they all get picked up by their parents, Flash’s driver, Gerald, who’s holding the Thompson sign, was actually supposed to play Flash’s father. But the day before, I was having a drink with one of the producers, Chris Buongiorno, and we were trying to figure out what else could be funny. And I think I said to him, 'What if his parents, after all of this, still don’t show up?' So it ended up being a funny gag, but we shot both versions with that actor as Flash’s father and Flash’s driver. So the driver version ended up being the funny one, and that’s the one they ended up using."
It's an awesome yet sad thing that gave Flash more dimension as a character. Moreover, we're hoping he eventually catches his parents' attention.
