The Marvel Cinematic Universe drastically changed the Spider-Man mythos and didn't follow the cookie-cutter origin previous Spidey films did. Although it was initially perceived as a bold move, it eventually paid off with Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy gaining massive critical and box office recognition.

One of the biggest changes Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures made for the "Homecoming" trilogy was May Parker's role. Earth-616's Aunt May was basically Uncle Ben's counterpart, the person who imparted a life-changing lesson to Peter Parker, making him realize that "with great power comes great responsibility".

We all know the tragic fate Marisa Tomei's version of Aunt May suffered at the hands of Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home but in case you weren't aware, that doesn't mark the beloved character's final appearance in the MCU. Well, technically, at least.

The upcoming animated series Spider-Man: Freshman Year just cast its version of Aunt May and chances are, you've heard her voice somewhere else.

According to a recently uncovered listing from the US Copyright Office (via The Direct), voice actress Kari Wahlgren has been cast as the franchise's new Aunt May.

Wahlgren has appeared in animated projects like Rick and Morty, My Adventures with Superman, and I Am Groot, making Spider-Man: Freshman Year her second outing for Marvel Studios.

As it stands, key details about Spider-Man: Freshman Year are still being kept under wraps but as the title suggests, the story will follow Peter's freshman year.

Of course, it's worth mentioning that the animated series isn't canon to the MCU's ongoing continuity, and if anything, it will be set in an entirely different universe.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year is reportedly hitting Disney+ in late 2024.
