Two comic book movies this summer have been in the opposite of the box office spectrum. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse continues to have an impressive run as it surpassed the overall results of the first film while The Flash had a disappointing opening weekend.

As the DC movie is showing signs of being a box office flop, there are questions on whether the film will be able to have legs in the following weeks despite the competition this season.

Now, we have the results on its second weekend and it looks like the film has faltered again as another comic book movie has taken over the number one spot.

According to Variety, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has topped the weekend box office again as it grossed $19.3 million. It is an impressive achievement as the film is on its fourth weekend and it managed to take the spot again despite the competition.

The film also continues to do well globally as it now has an overall worldwide gross of $560.3 million and it helps that it is already one of the most critically-acclaimed movies this year.

However, The Flash suffered a huge decline as it had a massive $73% drop and took the number three spot with $15.3 million. It is a bigger decline than the recent DCEU films Black Adam and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

What makes it more jarring is that the Pixar film Elemental retained its number two spot and it only had a decline of 37% which just shows that it has better legs than The Flash even though both of them arrived on the same weekend.

Meanwhile, the new Jennifer Lawrence-led comedy film No Hard Feelings took the fourth spot although it almost managed to defeat The Flash as it ended up having a solid gross of $15 million, which is a few hundreds of thousands away from the DCEU film's numbers.

There is no doubt that Sony is celebrating Across the Spider-Verse's monumental box office achievement and it's certainly more impressive since there is a lot of competition this summer.

However, for The Flash, it looks like its box office run is nearing the end of its steam already and it sounds like it is indeed going to become a huge flop which is not what Warner Bros. expects after hailing it as one of the best comic book movies of all time.
