According to Variety, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse nabbed an impressive $120.5 million at its opening weekend box office and it was able to beat the expectations of analysts prior to its release.

As a result, it is the second-biggest opening weekend so far this year with The Super Mario Bros. Movie still leading the record with $146 million. It is also the third-biggest opening for any Spider-Man film in history.

This comes as the film also had the biggest domestic opening day this year, becomes the highest-rated superhero film on IMDb, received an A rating on CinemaScore, and a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

In addition, the film grossed $88.1 million from 59 countries at its international box office and accumulated $208.6 million on its worldwide start.

There is no doubt that the sequel's box office achievement on its opening weekend is astounding given that the first film only opened at $35.5 million back in 2018 and it ended up grossing $384 million globally at the end of its run.

Now, based on its numbers so far, it looks like the sequel will easily surpass the box office of the first film and the positive word-of-mouth helped a lot in making the new film become a bigger success than the first on its weekend debut.

It is interesting to see now how its box office legs will go in the coming weeks although these signs are promising that it will have a very good run. Based on the audience scores alone, not only it will attract more new people to see it, but a lot of them will also rewatch it.
