As it stands, details about Tom Holland's MCU return have remained scarce. However, a new rumor claims that production for Spider-Man 4 is already experiencing behind-the-scenes drama this early.

Cosmic Circus' Alex Perez took to Twitter to give fans an update regarding the untitled project's status. While he did reveal that production for Spider-Man 4 has ramped up, he noted that the film is currently experiencing behind-the-scenes problems with Marvel and Sony at the forefront.

Perez writes: "From what I understand, certain things are still being worked out BTS. Hopefully they pan out since we just learned #SpiderMan4 has now shifted into a more advanced level of Pre-Production. An announcement could be imminent but we’ll see if Sony comes through for #CCXP". Check out the tweet here:

Of course, it's no secret to a lot of fans that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have had a tricky relationship. In 2019, the two production companies briefly ended their partnership which nearly jeopardized the MCU's continuity. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed in the end and they were able to agree to a new Spidey deal.

It's worth noting though that Sony has already gone the streaming route with several spinoffs in development over at Amazon. It would be safe to assume that they'd love for Holland's version of the character to be part of this expanded universe so the real question is, will Peter Parker still be part of the MCU after Spider-Man 4? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home is available to stream on Netflix.
