Sony to Release New Spider-Verse Short Film This June

A lot of fans have been anticipating the release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse this summer, especially in the aftermath of the first film's huge success and Oscar win. Based on the trailers, it looks like the sequel will be bigger than ever as they'll introduce more variants of the web-slinger.

Fortunately, it looks like fans will get more taste of the Spider-Verse as Variety has reported that Sony will release a new original animated short film this June titled The Spider Within, which is set between Across the Spider-Verse and the third film.

The short's synopsis reads: "Miles Morales struggles to balance his responsibilities as a teenager, friend and student while acting as Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood superhero. After a particularly challenging day living with these pressures, Miles experiences a panic attack that forces him to confront the manifestations of his anxiety and learn that reaching out for help can be just as brave an act as protecting his city from evil."

The film is part of Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks’ new mentorship program LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers). It will premiere exclusively at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. However, it is unknown if it will be screened for the general public.

This is certainly exciting news for Spider-Verse fans since this is another extension of the franchise and they'll have an opportunity to witness more stories from the multiverse aside from the feature-length films. It would be curious to see if Sony will do more short films within the franchise to tie in with the other projects.
