Sony is Rumored to Be Working on Electro Spinoff Film

Spider-Man: No Way Home welcomed the return of the villains from the past Spider-Man films including Jamie Foxx's Electro who previously appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Oscar-winning actor's performance as the villain in the latest film was received well by fans and called it an improvement from his first appearance. Now, it looks like he might be getting a solo movie (at least according to a rumor).

Murphy's Multiverse has reported that they've heard that Sony is interested in developing an Electro solo movie with Foxx reprising the role. The positive responses to No Way Home have led Sony executives to invoke a clause in the actor's contract that was tied to the box office opening of the film. However, the project is still in its early development and the studio has not given it the green light to go into production so there's a chance that it will not happen at all.

It is interesting to hear that Sony is now working on a solo movie centering Foxx's Electro since, initially, the character wasn't well-received after the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and he was considered as one of the weaker villains in all Spider-Man films. However, it looks like No Way Home redeemed the character and now there is an interest within the Sony brass in a solo project centering on him.

As the report mentioned, it should be noted that it is still in early development so there's no guarantee yet that the film will actually come to fruition. Through the years, given that Spider-Man is being used in the MCU, Sony has been developing films centered on the villains such as Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter. It's not out of the realm that they will be developing an Electro solo movie although if it does push through, what will the story be? Is it going to be set in Marc Webb's films' universe? There are a lot of questions. Let's just see if the project will be given an official green light in the future.
