A lot of people weren't sure about Sony's Silver & Black movie, and it looks like Sony is having second thoughts as well. News has it that the movie has been scrapped, and both Silver Sable and Black Cat will be getting their own solo movies.
According to Variety, Sony has opted to cancel Silver & Black and is now looking for writers to pen films Silk and Jackpot.
Originally Silver & Black had Gyna Prince-Bythwood attached as the director, but now that the movie is cancelled, Prince-Bythwood will remain as producer for both spinoff films.
Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch also had this to say about spinning off Black Cat:
"Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film."
No one really thinks that these spinoffs by Sony are good ideas, and there have been mixed feelings about the upcoming Venom film. It just feels like Sony is trying too hard building this ‘Spider-Man cinematic universe without Spider-Man.' Maybe they should have just let Marvel Studios decide everything for them.
No release dates have been announced for Silk or Jackpot.
