Sony and Disney's New Spider-Man Deal was Partially Due to Fan Outcry

Spider-Man has had quite the rollercoaster ride recently, with many of us thinking that he wouldn't be part of the MCU anymore before Disney and Sony announced a new Spider-Man deal that would allow the character to have one more solo film and a crossover film down the line. It was a pretty wild time, with many of us thinking that Disney was greedy for wanting more money while also realizing how terrifying it would be if Spider-Man could only appear in a weird cinematic universe with only Venom and Morbius to talk to.

Alan Horn, an executive from Walt Disney Studios, admitted in a roundtable discussion from The Hollywood Reporter that fan outcry was one of the reasons as to why Sony and Disney were able to get a new deal. It seems like fans are really attached to the current version of Spider-Man, especially after that amazing post-credit sequence from Spider-Man: Far From Home.

"The fan base, which is important to all of us, seemed to really respond to what Tom and his folks have done before with our people. They like the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Kevin Feige were involved [in the two Spider-Man films]. We heard feedback out there that suggested that joining forces once again was probably really a good idea."

It's going to be interesting to see what the next Spider-Man movie is going to be called, with many of us joking that it will be called Spider-Man: Homeless or Spider-Man: Work From Home. Since we have one more MCU Spider-Man movie coming, it looks like that will be Peter Parker's MCU swansong unless another deal is made.

MCU Spider-Man 3 is expected to come out on July 2021. Spider-Man: Far From Home is now available on Blu-ray.
