Sony Allegedly Wants a Joel Kinnaman-Type for Spider-Man 3

While COVID-19 may have put all movie productions to a complete stop, Hollywood is slowly getting back on its feet. With Sony moving forward with Uncharted, people are starting to look at the progress of Spider-Man 3, and we have some new rumors about casting.

According to Murphy's Multiverse, the movie is "looking for a Joel Kinnaman-type for an unspecified role in the upcoming Untitled Spider-Man Sequel." Keep in mind, this doesn't necessarily mean that they want Kinnaman for the job, and it's likely they just want a Caucasian male actor who can pull off a military leader-type. It was the same story when news was coming out Marvel wanted an ‘Alison Brie-type' for She-Hulk.

As for the role, some are almost sure that this is for Kraven the Hunter. Rumors have been going around that Sony wants to introduce Kraven to the Spider-Verse, even going so far as to make him a solo film. While I'm against villain solo movies for Sony, I do think Kraven could be the next big villain for the franchise, granted on how great an adversary he's been for Spider-Man in the comics.

If anything, a lot of people think that Kinnaman could very well be cast in the role. His part of Rick Flagg isn't so major for the DCEU that it would distract from an appearance in Spider-Man 3, plus he's worked with Tom Holland before (Holland even visited Kinnaman on the set of Suicide Squad). Imagine Kinnaman's Kraven being a leader of a group of thugs all set on hunting down Spider-Man like some kind of… Suicide Squad.

For now, this is just a rumor. Hopefully, we get some more news before the year ends. Spider-Man 3 is set for a release on Dec. 17, 2021.
