Thirty-Nine may have just started, but Son Ye Jin is set to do another K-drama, Trees Die on Their Feet, with Kang Ha Neul. Rumors about this project started to swirl last year. Now, it has been confirmed that Hyun Bin’s future wife is about to take the lead.
The start of the year seems to be a big one for Son Ye Jin. Aside from announcing her upcoming marriage with Hyun Bin in March, the queen of K-drama has a new show coming up after Thirty-Nine.
The New Project of Son Ye Jin
According to AllKpop, Son Ye Jin will appear in Trees Die on Their Feet with the award-winning veteran actress Yoon Yuh Jung. She will play the role of Se Yeon, the granddaughter of Ja Geum Soon (Yoon Yuh Jung).
Ja Geum Soon escaped North Korea, which made her lose her family. She built a hotel in South Korea in hopes of being reunited with her kin and here, she will meet Yoo Jae Heon (Kang Ha Neul), a theatre actor who will pretend as his grandson to fulfill her dying wish, per Kdrama Kisses.

In September, Hook Entertainment first announced that Yoon Yuh Jung was considered to play a major in a new K-drama. At the time, Hancinema noted she was already reviewing the script.
The Crash Landing on You star and the Waiting for the Rain actor were the likely candidates to join the Oscar award-winning actress and were also given their respective scripts.
Jo Seong Geol will write Trees Die on Their Feet, which will be in collaboration with global OTT. The new series’ casting is still in the works, but it’s eyed to be released this year.
Son Ye Jin Talks About Acting
Meanwhile, in her appearance on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block, the soon-to-be bride looked back on her two decades of her acting career. She also brushed on the topic of getting old.
Son Ye Jin is now 40 years old and she admitted she had never imagined herself at this age. “Even now, I still can’t believe my own age,” she said, via Soompi.
She started her career in 1999. At the time, she was only in her teens. In her 20s, she revealed she wasn’t satisfied with her acting.

So, she hoped to quickly turn to her 30s so that she could improve her acting like other veteran actors and actresses in the industry. Anyhow, it had been her lifelong dream to be an actress.
“I had too many feelings and thoughts inside of me that I couldn’t express, and I thought that I wouldn’t be able to express them in another line of work,” she continued. “I wanted to express them through acting.”
With that being said, the show’s host praised Son Ye Jin for her incredible acting over the past 20 years without taking major breaks.
“Even if I really want to take a break and get some rest, if I see a great script, then I end up wanting to do it,” she revealed.
