On Monday, Wizards of the Coast announced the new nonrotating Magic: The Gathering format featuring cards from Return to Ravnica and forward called Pioneer, and it's coming to tabletop Grand Prix events next year, and it will be available to test on Magic Online starting October 23. While players are already brewing deck for the new format, it looks like many of the presumed Pioneer staples rose in price dramatically a few days before WotC made the announcement.
As Redditors and the Professor of Tolarian Community College pointed out on MTGGoldfish's price data, several presumed Pioneer staples like "Smuggler's Copter", "Saheeli Rai", "Aetherworks Marvel", and "Dig Through Time" were bought out nine days ago, showing recent spikes in prices.
Huh, what a coincidence that these suddenly are all bought up and spike right before the new format announcement!

But those are not the only four Pioneer cards that saw some spikes in price about a week ago. As Redditor BrainInAJarOfCoffee pointed out that a quick look at MTGGoldfish shows a little spike in prices for several cards from Pioneer-legal sets, and they include:
Siege Rhino
Deathrite Shaman
Saheeli Rai
Aetherworks Marvel
The Scarab God
Torrential Gearhulk
Dig Through Time
Treasure Cruise
Search for Azcanta
Smuggler's Copter
Grim Flayer
Hornet Queen
Teferi, Hero of Dominaria
While these noteworthy cards from Innistrad did not get price jumps, and some of them actually fell:
Restoration Angel
Liliana of the Veil
Huntmaster of the Fells
Griselbrand
Sorin, Lord of Innistrad
Snapcaster Mage
Someone most likely got the inside scoop and started buying the good Pioneer cards about a week ago, and knew which sets were included, since Innistrad block cards did not see a spike in price.
The only cards in the Pioneer banlist so far are the five fetchlands: "Bloodstained Mire", "Flooded Strand", "Polluted Delta", "Windswept Heath", and "Wooded Foothills" so it's likely that some of that cards that got some price spikes could eventually get banned in the new format.
It's clear that WotC is seriously pushing Pioneer to be one of the main formats for sanctioned tournaments. The MagicFest Q1 2020 schedule already revealed that four Grand Prix events have already been confirmed to use the Pioneer format.
