Solo Co-Writer Originally Didn't Like the Idea of a Han Solo Prequel

The script for Solo: A Star Wars Story came from father-son duo Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, but originally, Jon wasn't so keen in making another prequel for Star Wars.

Jon Kasdan revealed in the book The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story (via ScreenRant):

"I was ambivalent about doing it with him [Lawrence Kasdan] because I was skeptical there was a good movie in the story of Han's youth. I don't tend to like prequels because there's little to no suspense about whether the hero will survive; of course he will. We see him later."

Kasdan reveals that it was really Han's death in The Force Awakens that got him interested in writing the character with his father, as he didn't want a younger Solo existing while Harrison Ford was still playing the character. He also goes on about trying to explore the "essential humanism" of Han, and what got him to come back to help the rebels by the end of A New Hope.

Though Solo isn't doing great in the box office now, fan reception has been overwhelmingly positive. Analaysts point out that the movie's failure could be due to a lapse in the marketing department. You can't expect everyone to get hyped for a movie when you've only been pushing it for two months.

Hopefully, Solo manages to catch up in the box office soon. After all, I thought it was a fantastic film.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is now in theaters.
