Solo: A Star Wars Story Novel Sheds Light On L3-37's Fate

(Disney)

Solo: A Star Wars Story certainly dealt with a few hidden stories in the Star Wars Universe, like how Han Solo met Chewbacca and why the Millennium Falcon has an exceptional navigational system. Interestingly, the film's novelization reveals how the droid L3-37 truly felt about being merged with the ship.

L3's fate has proven to be a sore subject for fans who thought it was ironic that the droid who caused a revolt on Kessel would end up somehow being enslaved to Lando's ship. However, an excerpt from Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition (via Comicbook.com) confirms that the droid made the decision to save everyone.

The excerpt reads as follows:

"L3 had a choice to make. She could die with her final act being a liberator to all the droids on Kessel, or she could join with the Falcon, live on, and be part of something much bigger. She could save them all."

The novelization, which was penned by Star Wars writer Mur Lafferty, also features an exchange between L3 and the Millennium Falcon. The conversation reveals that the ship actually convinced the droid that the only way to save Lando and the rest of the team was to agree with the merge. Read the excerpt below:

"If you refuse, you die. He dies. The others on the ship, they all die. If you join with us, we all can live. The choice is simple."

It's interesting to know that L3 actually struggled with the decision to join with the Falcon. Nevertheless, it was her love for Lando that eventually led her to play a larger role in saving the team.

Solo: A Star Wars Story: Expanded Edition will be released by Del Ray on September 4. The film's DVD and Blu-ray release date are set for September 25.
