Solo: A Star Wars Story Gets Beaten By Ant-Man 2 At The Domestic Box Office

Ant-Man and the Wasp might be the commercially weakest Marvel movie of the year, but it looks like the Ant-Man sequel has just managed to pass Star Wars spinoff movie Solo: A Star Wars Story at the domestic box office.

According to ComicBook.com,Ant-Man and the Wasp has just beaten Solo in the United States' film market, raking in $213.77 million at the domestic box office. That's a little more than Solo's $213.71 million earnings – which isn't that surprising considering the fact that Ant-Man and the Wasp already beat the Star Wars spinoff at the global box office with its $595 million haul long surpassing Solo's $392 million.

While Solo benefits from being a Star Wars spinoff, the film didn't do as well as Lucasfilm had expected. Though some believe that the film had been held back because of poor reviews, fans actually enjoyed the film. One of the causes of Solo's commercial flop is the poor marketing campaign that was given the film, not to mention the fact that Solo released a few weeks after Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2.

Ant-Man and the Wasp, on the other hand, enjoyed the undercurrent of Infinity War, being the very first film to follow the first installment in Marvel's two-part Avengers movie. Among the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 20 films to date, Ant-Man and the Wasp takes the 16th place in the domestic box office rankings, sitting above Ant-Man, Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk.

Ant-Man and the Wasp is expected to see its DVD and Blu-ray release October this year.
