While Solo: A Star Wars Story has mostly positive reviews, it remains the lowest-grossing entry of the live-action franchise. However, fans had a newfound appreciation for the film, hoping that there'd be a sequel of some sort. Though various rumors about its follow-up have surfaced since its release, director Ron Howard offers an update that puts these in question.

In a recent appearance on Radio Andy on SiriusXM (via ComicBook.com), Howard finally puts the breaks on these rumors. "Well, there's no sequel planned now and it's amazing to be a part of a Star Wars movie that seems to be a kind of underground hit," he said. "Which is not what you'd expect, but that's been an odd, strange journey for that movie."

It's a shame that there are no plans for a Solo follow-up, but Howard did note the excitement he has for the film having a following despite its box-office performance. Perhaps there's still hope for a Solo sequel in the future, but for now, fans can look forward to more Star Wars content via Disney+.

Rumors about Alden Ehrenreich reprising his role for a series has been prominent as of late, after all. Maybe fans would see him return to the galaxy far, far away through the handful of other live-action series in the works for the streaming platform.
