Solo: A Star Wars Story Concept Art Features Maul with Stilt Legs

Probably one of the biggest reveals of Solo: A Star Wars Story is the revelation that it was Darth Maul running the Crimson Dawn syndicate, and Ray Park graced the screen once more almost two decades after Episode I. Lucasfilm has officially released some concept art of Maul for Solo, and we have a look at what could have been his return to the cinemas.

Talking to StarWars.com, concept artist Jake Lunt reveals that Maul's appearance was kept a secret even within the crew itself. He shares:

"A handful of us were let in on Maul being in the film so we could start development on it. We all had to be extremely hush-hush on it, as they really wanted it to be as much of a surprise as possible. It made it tricky to actually work on because we didn't even want people to know there WAS as a secret. Anytime anyone came into our room, we were on guard, basically, and would quickly put another safe picture up to hide what we were working on. But yeah, it was brilliant working on Maul."

Though this is only the second time Maul has returned to the big screen, he actually has a very storied past in the expanded universe. He's also gone through a number of robot legs, including the spider-legs, the chicken legs, and now the regular legs. I really like the concept they had of Maul walking on stilts, but I imagine it wouldn't look as menacing.

For now, a lot of fans online are asking Lucasfilm to push forward with a sequel to Solo. The film has famously underperformed during its release, but it could all be blamed on the poor marketing and Disney decision to push the May release. Anyone who's seen the film has nothing but praise to give online.

Will we get a sequel to Solo? We'll just have to wait and see.
