Solo: A Star Wars Story Actor Sheds Light on Rumors About Alden Ehrenreich's Acting

It had been revealed that Lucasfilm had to hire an acting coach for Alden Ehrenreich on the set of Solo: A Star Wars Story, but unlike the rumors suggested, it wasn't because he was a terrible actor, but because his performance wasn't ‘Harrison Ford' enough.

An actor from the movie (who refused to be named) spoke to Vulture, and shed to light the issues with Ehrenreich's performance.

"Trying to mimic Harrison Ford is really tough… Lucasfilm wanted something very specific: copying someone else. Alden's not a bad actor — just not good enough."

Having the coach onboard was said to have improved Ehrenreich's line delivery immediately, and the source described:

"You could see his acting became more relaxed. He became more Harrison-like… The coach helped!"

Though it's admittedly tough to have Harrison Ford's shadow looming over Ehrenreich's performance, it looks like Lucasfilm made all the right moves when it came to getting a coach. Personally, I just want to see Ehrenreich make the character his own. I'm sure Harrison Ford didn't even put much thought into it when he was playing Han Solo back in the original trilogy. He was just acting how he saw fit.

I was initially skeptical about Phil Lord and Chris Miller getting fired from he set, but in light of the info that the crew and cast themselves were feeling awkward about the duo's ‘We'll find it in the editing bay' attitude, Lucasfilm probably did the right thing—even with all this negative backlash. After Ron Howard came on board, it was said that everything started to run a lot smoothly.

Catch Alden Ehrenreich in Solo: A Star Wars Story set to come out on May 25.
