For decades, there has been a rivalry among the fandom between Marvel and DC. Of course, both of them are comic book companies with well-beloved characters and they are competing on both pages and on the screen. Now, the infamous rivalry between the two comic giants will become the subject of a new docuseries from the directing duo behind the biggest comic book movie of all time.
The Roku Channel has released the official trailer for the upcoming 10-part docuseries Slugfest which will "explore the decades-long relationship and rivalry between Marvel and DC Comics." Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the directors behind Avengers: Endgame and other MCU films, serve as the executive producers. Kevin Smith is narrating the series. You can watch the trailer here:
The Russo brothers said in a statement, "Audiences will leave Slugfest with a whole new of understanding of how the rivalry between two creative powerhouses shaped the iconic storylines and characters that fans around the world have come to know and love. We're thrilled to partner with The Roku Channel to unpack the fascinating, but untold, history behind the most well-known competition in comics."
The docuseries is inspired by the book Slugfest: Inside the Epic, 50-year Battle Between Marvel and DC by Reed Tucker. It will be told through a series of interviews, archive footage, and re-enactments. It was initially set at Quibi before the service shut down and The Roku Channel took over all the original content.
The Marvel vs. DC rivalry is a very interesting subject for a docuseries. We know that they've been rivals for a long time and fans always debate about which comic book companies have the best superheroes. Of course, there is a story behind that rivalry and it's great to see both companies sharing their stories so that we can get a perspective on the rivalry from those who were involved in it.
Slugfest is set to premiere on The Roku Channel this coming December 24.
