The school-themed seinen manga follows the story of Mitsumi Iwakura as she starts her high school life in Tokyo and attempts to make friends.
While this might seem like a typical story for some, Skip and Loafer provides a fresh and unique approach to school life with its fascinating characters.
It takes another step further by exploring various topics, like sexuality, which was seen in the case of Mitsumi’s aunt, who is a transgender woman.
Skip and Loafer makes use of unique elements to make the series more attractive and relatable to readers.
Is the Skip and Loafer Manga Finished or Ongoing?
The Skip and Loafer manga is still ongoing as of writing. Illustrated and written by Misaki Takamatsu, Skip and Loafer is serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine.
The manga was first released in August 2018, with the most recent update in January 2023, with the eighth volume's release.
Seven Seas Entertainment acquired the license to release the English version of the manga for international fans to enjoy.
In fact, the eighth volume's English release is scheduled on October 24, 2023.
Given the progress of Skip and Loafer, there are no hints of the story ending anytime soon.
Skip and Loafer Manga vs. Anime: Which Is Better?
The Skip and Loafer anime by studio P.A. Works (Angel Beats! and Buddy Daddies) made its premiere in April 2023.
The slice-of-life anime gained much attention from anime fans with the main characters’ chemistry, intriguing plot, and compelling storytelling.
The question now is, which medium is better: the anime or the manga?
Of course, the choice will depend on the person. If you are the type who prefers to read manga, then the best option would be to check out the original source material.
But if you prefer to enjoy the series onscreen, then the anime adaptation is better for you.
In terms of content, the anime is trying its best to mirror the manga, so anime-only fans can still pretty much follow the same plot.
Mitsumi and Sousuke’s vibrant personalities are also evident in the anime, so both types of fans can get the most out of the slice-of-life anime.
Since the manga is still ongoing, the anime adaptation will only cover part of the series.
We still can’t confirm which volume the anime will end on, but if things go well, there might be a chance for Skip and Loafer to get another season.
