Simu Liu Offers Significant Update on Shang-Chi 2

When Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings were released in the aftermath of the pandemic, it became everything the MCU fans needed and more. It might be the 5th lowest-grossing MCU movie to date, but it succeeded to amaze its intended audience with its diverse and compelling cast in a cliche but the workable storyline. With that, fans are anticipating when the sequel is coming out and what they can expect from Shang-Chi 2. Simu Liu, who stars as the titular hero, offers a rare update on the upcoming Marvel movie.

As of the moment, the second movie is not part of the current or upcoming MCU slate, but it has been previously confirmed and is set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed the first film. In an interview with Collider, the actor teased new details on the Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sequel and whether one of their biggest stars in the film will be there to stay for the second installment.

“Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn’t necessarily feel like there’s a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we’ve established a world and there’s just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we’ve spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.” Liu said.

He continued, “And then, we’re getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We’ll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for in the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him. That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She’s on top of the world and just the queen of everything.”

Aside from his Marvel stint, Liu is expected to be seen next in the most anticipated film of Greta Gerwig's Barbie. So when asked if he knew when he would be starting filming for the Marvel sequel or if he was already conditioning himself for the role, he gave a fair answer.

“No. I hope I’m not exposing myself by saying that I’m definitely not forever staying in Marvel training camp. I’m forever being kind to myself and eating good food, and keeping the body nice and warm. You keep the mileage low until you’re absolutely forced to put more miles on it. That’s the philosophy of thought I belong to.” he said.

Shang-Chi 2 is yet to receive its release date, but Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are available to watch on Disney+.
