Simu Liu and Awkwafina Didn't Know About Shang-Chi Mid-Credits Scene Until Day of Filming

Fans still couldn't stop talking about the Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings since nobody expected two particular characters to appear in the film. However, viewers were not the only ones who had no idea what was going to happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. Director Destin Daniel Cretton has revealed that Simu Liu and Awkwafina were absolutely clueless about the scene until the day they had to shoot it.

The Shang-Chi mid-credits scene follows Shang and Katy as Wong takes them to the Sanctum Sanctorum where they have a meeting with none other than Bruce Banner and Carol Danvers. The meeting reveals some interesting new things about the ten rings and it may have been suggesting that Shang has a shot at becoming an Avenger.

These were awesome revelations but fans were also blown away by Mark Ruffalo and Brie Larson's surprise cameo as it was all so unexpected. Interestingly, we were not the only ones who had no idea what to expect in the scene.

Cretton recently spoke to ET Online where he was asked if Liu and Awkwafina even realized they were shooting a scene with Ruffalo and Larson. The filmmaker wasn't sure but he believes his lead stars only realized what was happening right before the cameras started rolling.

"I think they didn't know up until the day that they were doing the scene, but yes. I remember Simu walking onto set holding the sides, looking at me going..." Cretton said. He then discussed the significance of the scene.

"There's two things happening that emotionally are so connected in the MCU and on set. There is the ushering in of these characters into a group of established superheroes. But in real life, there is an ushering in of these actors into a community of established actors. And we could not have chosen a more perfect group of actors to do both," Cretton said.

It was probably a huge and somehow intimidating situation for Liu and Awkwafina but everything worked out perfectly for everyone. Now we're just hoping to see more of Shang and Katy interacting with the rest of the Avengers.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is now screening in theaters.
