Sigourney Weaver: Avatar 2 and 3 have Wrapped Filming

James Cameron is currently hard at work bringing new life into the Avatar franchise, and he's brought Sigourney Weaver along to reprise her character of Dr. Grace Augustine. With the first movie set to come out in 2020, Weaver has revealed that they've actually finished filming the first two Avatar sequels.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Weaver was asked if she was playing anyone new, to which she explains:

"No, it's a continuous character. We just finished shooting [Avatar] two and three. We shot it in LA and James has announced publicly that there's a lot of underwater work, so we learned how to free dive and we did many scenes underwater which was challenging and kind of cool."

With Grace clearly dying in the first film, we don't know how the sequels will plan to bring her back. Besides Weaver, Stephen Lang is also set to make a return. We don't know if he's playing the same character or someone entirely new, but I hope they have a different explanation for his resurrection as compared to Weaver's.

With the first two films having already wrapped, I think the timeline gives us an idea of how much work is going into the movie post-production. With the world being made entirely of CG, Cameron and his crew will need a lot of time to bring back life to the world of Pandora. Though the first two films have already wrapped, Weaver has also confirmed that they're already in production for movies 4 and 5.

Catch the first Avatar sequel when it comes out Dec. 18, 2020.
