What is Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie About?

Also known as Shikimori is Not Just Cute, the story follows the adventures of high-schooler Yuu Izumi and his perfect girlfriend, Micchon Shikimori.

Izumi is a relatively normal student, but is also incredibly clumsy and unfortunate, always getting into bad situations.

Shikimori, meanwhile, is a perfectly cute and adorable girl most of the time. However, she has a really cool and slightly scary side to her, which often comes out when Izumi is in trouble.

Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie will premiere on Sunday 10th April 2022 in Japan, and Saturday 9th April in time zones such as the USA, UK and Europe.

The show will be aired at 2:00 AM on Asahi Broadcasting’s ANiMAZiNG!!! Programming block. It is expected this series will be simulcast on Crunchyroll for viewers outside Asia, which means global viewers will be able to watch from the following times on Saturday 9th April:

  • Pacific Time: 10:00 AM PT
  • Central Time: 12:00 PM CT
  • Eastern Time: 13:00 PM ET
  • British Time: 18:00 PM GMT

Shikimori is Not Just Cute can be watched in Japan on Asahi Broadcasting and TV Asahi's 24 affiliate stations. Muse Asia is licencing the series for most Asian regions outside of Japan, while global viewers can watch the series on Crunchyroll.

It has not been confirmed how many episodes the series will have. However, it’s fair to assume it will be a one-cour run, at least initially, which would mean approximately 11-13 episodes.

There has also been no word yet on whether there will be an English dub for Shikimori. If any further news is announced, we will update this page.

Shikimori is Not Just Cute is being produced by Doga Kobo.

Doga Kobo is a studio with a positive record for high-school slice-of-life series. Popular shows by the team include Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun and New Game! They also recently produced the romance series Sing "Yesterday" for Me.

Shikimori will be directed by Ryouta Itou, who was assistant director on Sing "Yesterday" for Me. Character design is by Ai Kikuchi, who worked on New Game! and How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift?

Shikimori will be voiced by Saori Oonishi, who’s most known for voicing the love interest in DanMachi, Ais Wallenstein. She is also currently voicing Chateau in the romance series Love of Kill.

Izumi, meanwhile, will be voiced by Shuuichirou Umeda in his debut role!

Other notable voice actors for Shikimori include Misato Matsuoka, who played Tsubame in Keep Your Hands off Eizouken, and Rina Hidaka, who will also be playing Filo in The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2!

YouTube cover artist Nasuo☆ will be performing the show’s opening theme, while the ending will be performed by ​​Yuki Nakashima, formerly part of idol group Earth Star Dream.
