Sherlock Holmes 3 to be Directed by Rocketman's Dexter Fletcher

We've been getting small updates on Sherlock Holmes 3, but with Avengers: Endgame finally out of the way, Robert Downey Jr.'s schedule is all freed up to come back as the world's greatest detective (who isn't Batman). Just in, the movie has finally found its director.

As per Empire, Rocketman director Dexter Fletcher has been hired to helm the third Sherlock Holmes movie. The first two films were actually directed by Guy Ritchie (Aladdin), but there hasn't been any mention so far as to why he isn't coming back for this third film. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are expected to return as Holmes and Watson though.

While I'm personally bummed out that Ritchie won't be making a return, I have no doubt that Fletcher himself would be entirely capable of taking the franchise over. Besides doing well with Rocketman, he famously took over for Bryan Singer after he was fired from Bohemian Rhapsody.

What's interesting is that Fletcher actually worked with Ritchie himself; he played Soap in Ritchie's Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. This is kind of unrelated to Ritchie, but Fletcher also voiced a character in last year's Sherlock Gnomes.

We don't have an official release date for Sherlock Holmes 3 yet, but the movie is aiming for a release sometime in December 2021.
