Shelley Duvall rose to stardom when she played the lead roles of Olive Oyl in the live-action Popeye and Wendy Torrance in The Shining. But after over 20 years following her last performance in Manna from Heaven, where's the veteran actress today?

Duvall has returned to the spotlight and revealed why she stepped away from Hollywood in 2002. After his brother was diagnosed with spinal cancer, the now-73-year-old returned to Texas as acting projects also began to decrease.

In an interview with People, the star revealed that moving back to Texas was the "longest sabbatical" she took.

"But it was for really important reasons—to get in touch with my family again," she said.

The legendary director Robert Altman discovered Duvall, and from there, she started acting after being cast in the 1970 black comedy Brewster McCloud. She then did more Altman films, like McCabe & Mrs. Miller, Thieves Like Us, Nashville, and 3 Women.

Shelley Duvall's Brief Comeback in 2016

When work started to dry out, Duvall decided to return to Texas and kept a low profile in public.

However, she made a brief comeback in 2016 when she appeared in an episode of Dr. Phil, which was criticized for exploiting her "fragile mental state," per Page Six.

At the time, she insisted Williams was still alive, though he had already died of suicide two years prior. She also claimed that he was a "shapeshifter."
