Shea Whigham Reveals His Role in the Upcoming Joker Movie

Todd Phillips' Joker movie has no doubt assembled an impressive cast, and among those names on the list, there is Boardwalk Empire alum Shea Whigham. Whigham talks his role in the upcoming film, and it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone familiar with his work.

Talking to Collider, Whigham explains that he's playing a cop in Joker. He says:

"[Bill Camp] and I play two cops from Gotham P.D., in 1981 when the city was tough. We're investigating something that's just happened, at the start of the piece. We're trying to get to the bottom of it, and it leads to where it leads to. You know, it's rare that I've been on a set where it feels like it crackles. It's pretty amazing...I want to have an experience. I don't call it a job. I don't say that I have a job. I have a gig, or a piece, or a film, or a show, but it's never a job . . . We're having an experience on Joker."

It's funny that Whigham should be playing a cop in this film since he famously played one in Boardwalk Empire. He also played the cop father of Light Turner in Netflix's adaptation of Death Note. I'm guessing Whigham is playing the straight cop with Joker and his partner played by Bill Camp will be the crooked one.

I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be the Jim Gordon of this alternate reality.

Besides Whigham, the film also has the likes of Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, and Marc Maron in the cast. Not to mention Joaquin Phoenix is also attached to play the lead, and based on what we've seen from the set, he looks absolutely fantastic as the Joker.

Though a lot of people were doubtful about this film at first, everyone has slowly warmed up to the idea of the DCEU introducing an alternate timeline. Sure Marvel may be leading in the box office, but they haven't tried anything as ballsy as a multiverse before.

Catch Joker in theaters Oct. 4.
