She-Ra Showrunner Apologizes for Making a Racist Slavery Joke

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power received a ton of praise for being fairly inclusive, having an openly lesbian couple in Season 5, and an autistic character that was treated with respect. It seems like the people who created this show wouldn't make any offensive jokes that would annoy its fans but, unfortunately, showrunner Noelle Stevenson is only human and made a joke that many can say fairly racist.

On Twitter, Noelle Stevenson apologized for the joke that was made on a stream, saying that the implications of this joke were not immediate to her and taking responsibility for her actions. Stevenson also said that she needs no defending, especially from people who were not offended by the joke and might attack those who are. It wasn't intentional but fans don't need to defend her since it was still a bad movie all around.

The joke has led to some discussion, thankfully nothing really canceling the showrunner, who has proven to be a good voice for more inclusive characters in media. She-Ra was praised for it, as was her hit comic book Lumberjanes, so we're not going to say that Stevenson has been secretly racist all this time. Also, good on her for taking responsibility for her actions and giving a sincere apology.

If you're curious about her series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is now available on Netflix.
