It's no secret to a lot of fans that Marvel Studios has been trying its best to completely ignore the existence of Edward Norton's version of the Incredible Hulk and while the Marvel Cinematic Universe has moved on with Mark Ruffalo, the unthinkable actually happened, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law's second episode shockingly referenced the former Bruce Banner actor.

In Episode 2, it was revealed that Jen Walters must defend Emil Blonsky aka Abomination in trial or else she'll lose her new job as a superhuman lawyer. She later talks to Bruce Banner about taking the job and apparently, he's cool with it, saying that it's been years since their last encounter.

Marvel would then cleverly acknowledge the existence of Norton's Hulk in true fourth-wall-breaking fashion. During Bruce and Jen's conversation, Banner says that he's "literally" a completely different person than he was years ago, alluding to the fact that the character was previously played by Edward.

Turns out that there's no bad blood between Marvel and Norton and according to Ruffalo himself, he's even joked about their Hulk connection. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he shared: "I think it’s really funny. It’s just the reality that we all are often dancing around, but it’s true. I actually joked with Ed about this. I was like, ‘It’s like our generation’s Hamlet. Everyone’s going to get a shot at it.’ And there’ll probably be another couple before it’s all over. People will be like, ‘Remember when the Hulk used to look like Mark Ruffalo? Now it looks like Timothée Chalamet.’"

It's unfortunate that Norton's vision for the character was never truly realized but with the franchise being injected with the whole multiverse concept, Norton playing the Green Goliath one more time just became a huge possibility. Of course, that would depend on his willingness to return.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Episode 2 is now streaming on Disney+.
