We got a good idea of Shazam!'s origin story with the SDCC trailer, but we barely got anything from the main villain being Dr. Thaddeus Sivana played by Mark Strong. Thanks to Empire, we may have a small tidbit on Sivana's entire motive in the film.
As it turns out, Sivana is an ‘evil genius with the designs on making Shazam's powers his own.' It's a very selfish motive, and personally, I'm all up for it. With these comic book villains usually holding the ‘fate of the world' in the balance, it's kind of new to see them have self-centered, but contained goals.
In the comics, Sivana is considered to be one of Captain Marvel's oldest rivals, and though he isn't Lex Luthor, he could very well be on par with him. He's smart, and shrewd, and will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Everyone wants to see Shazam take on Black Adam, but I'm more interested in seeing the young Billy Batson go up against a full on adult-like Sivana.
I bet the exchanges are going to be hilarious.
We don't have that much on Sivana's entire plan, but the speculation goes on to think that Sivana will be the one to resurrect Black Adam. DC has been doing great in a sense that they don't really kill off their villains, and I'm hoping to see more of Mark Strong in the DCEU moving forward.
Catch Shazam! in theaters April 5, 2019.
