The next big DCU movie arrives early next year with Shazam! Fury of the Gods and with the recent appointment of James Gunn as the top executive of the DC Universe, young Billy Batson actor Angel Asher has high hopes to see more heroes coming into the franchise in the future.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods was supposed to be this year's holiday movie for the DC Universe but due to various circumstances, Warner Bros. deemed it best to move the sequel to March next year with the return of most of the original cast including Asher Angel who plays Billy Batson, Shazam's counterpart.
In a recent interview with Asher Angel with ComicBook.com, the young actor from Shazam! Fury of the Gods shared the very first time he met James Gunn, "I remember meeting James. I went to the Suicide Squad stages in Atlanta. I met with him and he's just a super nice, genuine, humble guy. Super passionate."
Angel also revealed how Gunn and Safran's team up could make a difference for the DCU, "Obviously, he's super freaking talented, but for him to team up with Peter Safran, who I think is so incredibly gifted at what he does is, it's a dream team. To pair the two it totally makes sense. It was bound to happen."
Angel added that he wants to see more DCU heroes interact with Shazam/ Billy Batson under the leadership of Gunn, "Hopefully I get to integrate with other characters, but who knows?"
Following the release of Black Adam in October, Warner Bros. Discovery announced that James Gunn and Peter Safran will both be co-heads of DC Studios, thus, making Shazam! Fury of the Gods as the first DCU movie that will come out under their leadership.
Gunn and Safran will head the DC film, television, and animation projects of Warner Bros. Discovery, and its corresponding creative and financial aspect. Both of the heads of the DCU are now making a roadmap for the franchise where the hopes of Angel could be integrated soon.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is within the DC Extended Universe and it is starred by Zachary Levi as Shazam! and Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy, Adam Brody as Shazam! Freddy, Faithe Herman as Darla, Meagan Good as Shazam! Darla, and Grace Fulton as Mary Bromfield.
Also included in the cast are Ian Chen as Eugene Choi, Ross Butler as Shazam! Eugene, Jovan Armand as Pedro Pena, D.J. Cotrona as Shazam! Pedro, Marta Milans as Rosa Vasquez, and Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez.
Djimon Hounsou is expected to return as the wizard, and Rachel Zegler as a surprise character. The Daughters of Atlas, the villains of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, are Lucy Liu as Kalypso, and Helen Mirren as Hespera.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is slated for a theatrical release on March 17, 2023.
