The DC Extended Universe has struggled for years to click with the comic book film fandom but give credit where credit is due because there are still things that the franchise does right. One of the prime examples is the first Shazam! film which marked the first time the DCEU fully embraced the comedic tone and heart of superhero films.

During the time, some fans were a bit skeptical that DC will be able to pull off the MCU formula because, for the longest time, the franchise has been notorious for its dark and gritty storytelling but Shazam! pretty much proved that the franchise can have some fun as well. Lo and behold, a sequel was eventually greenlit by Warner Bros.

Speaking of, Director David F. Sandberg revealed on social media that Shazam! Fury of the Gods has been filming for 68 days now and counting. Turns out, that was the amount of time it took for them to finish filming the original Shazam! flick and obviously, the sequel is about to surpass that. Sandberg also teased that they're almost at the finish line so it's safe to say that the post-production aspect of the film could happen anytime soon.

Personally, Shazam! is one of my favorite DCEU flicks to date and I'm glad it achieved the success that it did. Obviously, being sandwiched between Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame didn't do anything to help its box office potential but I guess it was just a victim of bad timing. Still, I'm genuinely thrilled that WB and DC Films are running with the franchise.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit cinemas in June 2023.
