Despite the fact that 2019's Shazam! performed well at the box office and exceeded expectations from both fans and critics, some people were still not sold on Zachary Levi playing one of DC's mightiest superheroes but it's not because he wasn't good, it's because he didn't exactly look the part and him wearing a muscle suit to hide the fact that he failed to train physically for the role didn't help his case. Admittedly, Levi relied on a padded costume in the first film to make him look bulkier but instead of it looking natural, it came across as goofy.
Now, ahead of Shazam! Fury of the Gods' production start, Levi is once again hitting the gym in hopes of finally getting into that superhero shape. Taking to his Instagram stories, the former Marvel star revealed that he's already undergoing intense physical training for the project. In a separate post, Levi pretty much confirmed that filming for the sequel will begin soon with the actor landing in Atlanta.
As much as I love Zachary Levi, his talent and charisma would only take him so far in the DC Extended Universe and if we're being honest, those attributes aren't going to be enough especially now that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's Black Adam is finally coming to the franchise.
Still, I have faith that Levi undergoes a drastic physical transformation and while I'm not expecting him to look as huge as the WWE megastar, he at least needs to pack on enough muscle mass to look formidable next to The Rock because quite frankly, Johnson would've eaten him alive if he was still in his 2019 shape.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is expected to hit cinemas in 2023.
