Just like any other film that gets released, fans are hoping that the sequel will deliver the same quality as the first film in the midst of the uncertainty regarding the character's future in the new DCU franchise. Last night, the social media embargo has been lifted and critics and journalists were able to share their first reactions to the film.

Based on the responses that we've seen so far, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is receiving a lot of solid positive responses with praises towards its fun and entertainment value, humor, action sequences, and the performances of new cast members Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu, and Rachel Zegler.

The film's synopsis reads: "Shazam! Fury of the Gods continues the story of teenage Billy Batson who, upon reciting the magic word "SHAZAM!," is transformed into his adult Super Hero alter ego, Shazam."

The cast also includes Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Djimon Hounsou, Grace Caroline Currey, D.J. Cotrona, Jovan Armand, and Rizwan Manji. It is directed by David F. Sandberg from the screenplay written by Henry Gayden and Chris Morgan.
