The latest season of the Netflix hit show Stranger Things saw the Hawkins gang losing to the menacing villain Vecna, who was later on revealed as the ruler of the eerie dimension Upside Down. Aside from the show's spine-chilling villain, one newcomer also stole the spotlight, none other than Eddie Munson, played by Joseph Quinn.

Eddie, an eccentric leader of a Dungeons & Dragons group called the Hellfire Club got entangled with the Upside Down when he became the primary suspect for Vecna's first victim, Chrissy. Sadly, things didn't work out well for Eddie, and ultimately faced demise at the finale of the fourth season.

Following Eddie Munson's tragic fate in Season 4, fans have been rallying for his return in Stranger Things Season 5, and it seems one of the show's directors is willing to grant the fans' demand.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at this week's Primetime Emmy Awards, Stranger Things showrunner Shawn Levy addressed the possibility of Eddie's return, calling it "highly unlikely" but also noted that they are fully aware of the fan petitions. See his full quote below:

"[Laughs] Oh boy, a lot of people - a lot of people - can't even handle the thought of a Season 5 without some excuse for Eddie presence. Highly unlikely. Highly unlikely. But we hear you, world. We know. You're obsessed with Eddie. So were we."

Given the unending rallying of fans to persuade Levy and the Duffer Brothers to secure Eddie's return in the final season of Stranger Things, they might actually consider it. Despite being introduced at the Endgame of the Netflix show, fans still enthusiastically embraced the new character as the latest member of the Hawkins gang. Aside from that, it's the final season, so Stranger Things would undoubtedly give it all.

Even Quinn himself is also petitioning for his return in Season 5 and even shared his bizarre idea on how Eddie could return as a ghost, just like how Season 3's Dacre Montgomery was still able to make an appearance in Season 4 as a figment of Max's memories.

Whether Eddie returns or not, Stranger Things Season 5 would certainly pay tribute to the character. For now, fans can revisit Eddie's narrative in Stranger Things Season 4, available to stream on Netflix.
