Rumor has it that Daisy Ridley's next Star Wars film helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is experiencing production trouble as of late. Just recently, it was reported that the untitled project, first announced at last year's Star Wars Celebration in London had been delayed indefinitely, something that Lucasfilm was quick to dismiss.

Still, it seems like the rumor mill wouldn't stop spinning for the project and an even wilder report emerged this week, claiming that the Ms. Marvel director has been ousted from the film. But is there any truth to it?

According to YouTuber Mike Zeroh (via The Direct), Lucasfilm decided to "fire and remove" the director "in the wake of the Rey movie backlash."

For the uninitiated, it all stemmed from the director's 2015 comments which resurfaced on social media. In the said clip, Obaid-Chinoy said her goal was to "make men feel uncomfortable" through her body of work.

Naturally, Obaid-Chinoy's statement, which was probably intended to be a joke was taken completely out of context, leading to online backlash.

As it stands, Lucasfilm has yet to confirm whether or not the director is still on board to do the film, which is set generations after the sequel trilogy but here's what some fans have to say:

Of course, it's worth mentioning that Mike Zeroh has been notorious for dishing out unreliable information, so it's always best to take his claims with a Death Star-sized grain of salt.

As for the director's rumored firing, it's hard to believe that a harmless statement from nearly a decade ago would lead to her termination. And if anything, Lucasfilm has shown great confidence in her directing chops.

The yet-to-be-titled New Jedi Order movie is currently slated for release in theaters on May 22, 2026.
