Shang-Chi Timeline Revealed by Destin Daniel Cretton

There is a lot to look forward to in Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. It's the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to focus on an Asian comic book hero and it boasts of a mostly Asian cast.

But is it safe to say that it's also the first MCU movie to take place after Thanos' snap in Avengers: Infinity War? Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton has revealed the film's timeline.

Black Widow may have been the first MCU film to be released after Avengers: Endgame but it takes place in the past, or right after Captain America: Civil War, to be precise. This means that Shang-Chi could be the first movie to be set in the present but there are speculations that it takes place before the Blip.

Luckily, Cretton debunked Shang-Chi's timeline while speaking with Fandango. "Shang-Chi is set in the present day in the MCU timeline," the director confirmed. He also gave his assent when asked if that means the post-Snap future.

This is an interesting revelation considering that Shang-Chi might not connect the character with the rest of the heroes just yet. Still, it would be great to see how the rest of the world dealt with life after the Blip. But more importantly, we're looking forward to finally seeing the comic book hero in action next month.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings stars Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung. The film will premiere on September 3, 2021.
