Shang-Chi Hits Highest Second Weekend Box Office Since Rise Of Skywalker

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings continues to be a massive success. The superhero flick produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures lead the box office again for the second week.

The film starring Simu Liu proves to be a huge hit because it has outperformed even the high expectations from it. Based on the latest numbers, Shang Chi hits the highest second-weekend box office since the Rise of Skywalker, CNET reported. It made $34.1 million in its second week taking its U.S. box office for a total of $143.9 million.

When Shang-Chi was released, it immediately made $71 million in just three days. Although its drop-off in the second weekend was 52.5%, it has remained stronger with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow which dropped 67% in the same period despite having the strongest opening weekend of the pandemic.

Shang-Chi has already garnered $257.6 million worldwide. It is expected to pass the $400 million mark. Shang-Chi was not given a hybrid release unlike Raya and the Last Dragon, Black Widow, and Mulan. The movie is exclusively released in theaters.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, Shang-Chi is the 102nd film to gross over $100 million in its first five days and the first film to do so during the pandemic. It took six weeks for Black Widow to achieve the same figure.

Considering the performance of the movie, Shang-Chi is on track to be the first movie in the pandemic era to make $200 million in the local box office. Black Widow was on solid footing but fall back in weekend two and fell short by about $22 million to $28 million.

Those who have already watched the film had nothing but praises about it. Several commented on one post of Shang-Chi's official Instagram account and said it was an "amazing movie." Another wrote, "my fav film currently."

"I can see why this movie is number one in the world for the last two weeks!! Everyone and everything in this movie was and did incredible!!! Way more magical and amazing than I thought it would be!!!100% happy I went!" another commented.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the #1 movie in the World Marvel Studio's and it is still in theaters!
