Shang-Chi Demolishes Labor Day Weekend Record with $90M Opening Weekend

The long wait for Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is finally over and fans were clearly eager to see the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe flick. The Simu Liu movie has just demolished the previous Labor Day weekend box office record by taking in a massive $90 million on its opening weekend.

There is little doubt that Shang-Chi was off to a great start when the film took in $29.6 million on its opening day. The movie went on to earn an impressive $75 million on its first three days and ending up with a stunning $90 million at the box office over the four-day weekend.

It shouldn't be a huge surprise that Shang-Chi is doing so well considering that it is an MCU flick. However, the feat is made even more impressive considering that it happened in the post-pandemic era and in the middle of new fears over the Delta variant. Needless to say, fans were ready to enjoy the action-packed feature as long as the right safety protocols are in place.

Shang-Chi's success is made even more significant since there were reports that Disney and Marvel Studios were supposed to be testing audience interest in a full theatrical release. Disney had previously given Black Widow a split release by making the film available on its streaming service via Premier Access. Needless to say, it does prove that cinemas are still going to be filled when it comes to an MCU movie.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings is now screening in theaters.
