Shang-Chi Concept Art Shows Deadpool Battling Proxima Midnight in the Golden Daggers Club

One of the highlights of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the fight between Wong and the Abomination in Xialing's Golden Daggers Club at Macau. It was a sequence between two MCU characters that you wouldn't expect would ever face off and it also marks the return of the Abomination in more than 10 years after we last saw him in The Incredible Hulk. But as it turns out, there was supposedly another version where it featured two different Marvel characters.

According to The Direct, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings senior concept illustrator Andrew Kim posted an image of concept art from the film that features Deadpool fighting Proxima Midnight at the Golden Daggers Club. You can check it below courtesy of Twitter account @ShangChiNews:

It is unknown if it indicates that Deadpool and Proxima Midnight were originally supposed to be part of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings or Kim was just having fun with his art and decided to throw in those two characters as an experiment.

Obviously, it would have brought a lot of questions if Deadpool and Proxima Midnight did end up appearing at the fight club during the moment, especially with the latter who died at the events of the last two Avengers films. Deadpool's appearance would also cause some confusion since he hasn't been officially brought in yet to the MCU.

It is very likely that Kim was just having fun with this art and it's probably one of those early concept arts where he decided to use the two characters as a stand-in for whoever they will actually plan to appear in the sequence. It would have been jarring if Marvel Studios did decide to use those two characters in the sequence. Since it's just a concept art, there is no harm in using different Marvel characters.

While it has been already established that Proxima Midnight is already gone in the MCU, Deadpool hasn't made his appearance yet and we know that Ryan Reynolds will be back to play the character in a third film once he returns. For now, this concept art provided a good "what if?" idea for us fans and there is no doubt that the concept art was awesome to look at.
