Shaman King Reboot is really happening, folks! One of the most popular anime titles of the early 2000s is about to have its come back with a reboot of Shaman King which follows the story of the adventures of Yoh Asakura and his attempts to become the Shaman King through winning the Shaman Fight which motivates him to hone his shaman skills.
Shaman King has been a staple to both the manga and anime turf that it is one of the shows which has transcendence even after the ending of both the manga series and anime series between the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The Shaman King reboot brings so much excitement especially to the fans of the manga series and the previous anime adaptation making the range of the audience of the show wide enough to hype the upcoming reboot.
Shaman King is based on the Japanese shōnen manga series of the same name which is both written and illustrated by Hiroyuki Takei. Shaman King was first published in the Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1998 to 2004 in 32 tankōbon volumes. Kodansha, later on, acquired the rights to republish the manga series and had it on 35 e-book volumes in 2018. It is also put in print since 2020.
Shaman King is about Yoh Asakura, a shaman whose skills create a conduit between the world of the living and the dead. His ultimate goal is to be the Shaman King wherein he would be contacting the Great Spirit which could grant him the ability to reshape the world in the way that anyone could wish for. In order to be the Shaman King, he has to win the Shaman Fight, a battle happening every 500 years.
The first anime TV series of Shaman King aired in Japan between July 2001 to September 2002 and it was co-produced by TV Tokyo, NAS, and Xebec. It was hailed as the sixth-best anime of 2001 from the Animage readers. The anime also ranked 47th out of the Top 100 of the Japanese television network TV Asahi poll in 2005.
The reboot will be produced by Bridge and will be premiering on the first day of April this year. The Shaman King reboot is officially licensed by Netflix for streaming and it brings so much excitement to manga readers and anime watchers alike.
How Will Be The Reboot Different from the Original Anime?
First up is the animation style. Given that the reboot will be under a new production studio, the animation would be really different from what had been previously made. The animation of the reboot goes apt with the current style of animation and the production studio takes it to a new level with new styles and techniques that their goal is to retain the style of the manga and at the same time, go with what is in for today's animation style.
With there, it is expected that there could possibly be CG sequences along the way with the reboot, something the original anime doesn't have as the technology before can only do so much. Given the advent of technological advancements, new animation techniques could be put into the reboot.
Second, the reboot will reportedly be closer to the manga than that of the original anime. The story will be more closely knit to the manga series and there would be more to the manga that would be translated to the screens. This is something the original anime quite left out as there are some backstories that did not make it to the screens, some characters that weren't introduced, and some tweaks in the ending.
Third, it's a redemption of the anime of Shaman King. The original anime wasn't exactly how people have expected it to end as the story quite took a different turn towards the ending that it is rather cliché and anticlimactic to start with. With the reboot, there could be redemption for this one to really bring about how the manga series ended awesomely, and maybe even get the anime series the ending it deserves.
Fourth, the audience of the anime series has more than those that are watching before. Because Shaman King dates back two decades ago, those who have been following the story from before and those who are just about to get introduced to the anime series would be part of the audience of the anime series. This means it has a wider range of audiences having those who watched it before and those who are just new to the anime title.
Lastly, it is available for online streaming and on one of the largest streaming platforms in the world. Netflix holds the official streaming license for the show and it is expected that the series would be a mega-hit now that it is easily available for streaming online. Before the original anime airs on TV and there not many ways to get a replay, now, anyone could re-watch the previous episodes so long as they have a subscription on Netflix.
The reboot of Shaman King will be released in Japan on April 1, 2021. For those who are outside of Japan, the series will arrive on Netflix within the year.
