Shakira could be putting on a brave face now, but being locked up in prison would be her worst nightmare, a new report claimed.
Shakira Accused Of Tax Fraud
Colombian pop singer Shakira could face up to eight years in prison in a case where Spanish prosecutors have accused her of tax fraud. The “Waka Waka” singer, whose full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is facing six charges alleging she failed to pay the Spanish government nearly $15 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014.
The tax fraud case of Shakira is expected to go to trial after the 45-year-old singer rejected a settlement the prosecutors offered. A trial date has not been set as of this writing.
The prosecutors are asking the court to hand down a sentence of eight years and two months if Shakira is convicted. A judge can waive prison time for first-time offenders if they are sentenced to less than two years behind bars.
An unnamed source told Life & Style:
“She’s suffering from terrible insomnia and anxiety over the whole messy situation. The thought of being torn apart from her loved ones is terrifying.”
Is 2022 A Bad Year For Shakira?
Prior to the tax fraud filing, 2022 had already been a rough year for Shakira, whose father, William Mebarak Chadid, had a bad fall and the “Whenever, Wherever” hitmaker was sighted riding in an ambulance with the 90-year-old to the hospital.
After that, Shakira and Gerard Pique, her husband of 11 years, announced their separation amid infidelity allegations. One informant claimed:
“There were definitely trust issues. They’d been on the rocks for years, but Shakira finally kicked him to the curb.”
Gerard Pique has been “unleashed” and partying “out of control” after the split. Another tattler told the Life & Style:
“Shakira is worried about losing Milan and Sasha to Gerard – she fears that he’ll fight to take kids in the event the trial doesn’t go her way. But Shakira is also confident justice will ultimately prevail.”
