This weekend, Shadows House marked the end of the debut arc that is, the third volume of the ongoing manga the show is based on. It's no real surprise that Emilyco and Kate made it to the finish line, but will the pair be able to bear the cost?
Things aren't expected to get any less creepy as we delve more deeply into the sinister Shadows House. Episode 10 revealed almost everything there is to know, making things properly dystopian. But dismantling dystopias takes time and effort, which the few remaining chapters of the 13-episode Season 1 couldn't do justice to, meaning Season 2 becomes more likely by the day!

Shadows House Episode 10 Recap

Episode 10 starts with the final minutes of the debut. Due to their joint efforts and resourcefulness, Emilyco and Kate make it back to the house, and Kate is accepted as an adult, allowed to socialize with other Shadows. During mingling with other Shadows, the living dolls must refrain from speaking and only show their master's expressions.
Unfortunately, Rum and Shirley aren't as lucky. While they have a sweet moment of bonding, Shirley starts to dissolve into soot, while Rum is taken away to become a faceless doll. Even more shockingly, the other living dolls fail to show any grief when they hear of Rum and Shirley's demise. We soon find out that this is because they have been made to drink coffee with the "Lord Grandfather's" soot in it, which erases their short-term memories and makes them completely obedient to him.
On the upper floors, Edward and his assistants are interrogated by the highest-ranking Shadow masters. Through their discussion, we find out that Shadows are actually parasitic fairies without any form, to begin with. Due to a plan initiated by the "Lord Grandfather," new Shadows are presented with a living doll each. This allows them to perfectly imitate the doll's human form and acquire personalities through interactions with them.
It appears that due to Rum's shyness, Shirley failed to develop a personality, as she didn't have any stimulation, which is why she was discarded by Edward. Even more horribly, all Shadows are expected to eventually acquire a face by taking over their living dolls' bodies, essentially killing them. To facilitate this, the dolls are forced to drink the coffee that will make them obedient to their Shadow masters.
But Kate never wanted this. She gave Emilyco a name different from her own because she wanted her companion to have a distinct personality, and she loves Emilyco for what she is. Will she manage to bring her back to normal?

Shadows House Episode 11 titled "The Dark Dring" is going to be released on the 19th or the 20th of June, depending on your timezone. Premium Funimations users will be able to watch the newest episode of Shadows House simulcast the moment it is released. Let's hope that Kate will manage to counteract the dark drink's effects by then!
Non-premium users will have to wait for Episode 11 until the 27th of June but Episode 10 will be available to everyone by June 20, so watch out for that, just bear in mind that there will be ads.
