Seventy Percent Of Solo: A Star Wars Story Reportedly Shot By Ron Howard

There might be a lot of excitement building up over Solo: A Star Wars Story, but it's hard to forget that the Star Wars spinoff had a lot of trouble behind-the-scenes during its production.

Last year, Lucasfilm decided to separate ways with Solo's original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller despite the fact that the film was already deep into production during the time. The studio had a lot of creative differences with the directors of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, upset that the two added too much improv into the spinoff.

A few days after firing Lord and Miller, Lucasfilm brought in Ron Howard to direct the spinoff.

Now that the film's just a few weeks away from its premiere, a new report by the Wall Street Journal claims that howard shot 70 percent of the footage that made it into the final version of the film. Though Howard shot from the same script that Lord and Miller worked on while they were directing the film, the publication notes that there was a vast differences in both the shooting style and tone of both works.

Echoing previous reports regarding Solo's troubled production, the source said that original directors Lord and Miller "shot dozens of different versions of scenes, straying away from what was in script."

Lucasfilm didn't like that Lord and Miller strayed too far away from the film, creating what seemed to be like a comedy movie instead of a space heist. Luckily the studio managed to find a director with a better tone for the film, and now we've got a spinoff closer to what Lucasfilm was hoping for.

Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres May 25.
