SEVENTEEN Wonwoo’s mother has died, an official statement from Pledis Entertainment confirmed.
SEVENTEEN and CARATs currently mourn after Wonwoo’s mother passed away on Wednesday, April 6. The official Twitter account of Pledis Entertainment confirmed the news, sharing an emotional obituary with its followers.
According to the agency, Wonwoo’s mother suffered from an undisclosed illness. It remains unknown whether the matriarch had been suffering from it for a long time.
“Wonwoo is currently at the funeral hall, and the funeral will be held with family and close friends. We ask for your kind consideration and support so that Wonwoo can have a period of mourning with his family. May she rest in peace,” the statement went on.

SEVENTEEN Fans, CARATs, Send Heartfelt Messages to Wonwoo
Following the emergence of the news, CARATs immediately sent their heartfelt condolences to Wonwoo and his family.
One said, “wonwoo’s mother is also sebong’s mother. imagine how painful it is for all of them, esp wonwoo, to be participating in future events trying to make us happy when all of them are grieving inside. God give them a long break to heal from this.”
“let's all respect wonwoo's privacy and refrain from asking him for updates okii?? may her mother's soul rest in peace,” another wrote.

Some of them also recalled how Joshua once mentioned how thankful he is to Wonwoo’s family since the matriarch took care of him when his family was still in the US.
A fan reminisced, “I’m heart broken for him, she raised a wonderful man and great human being, I remember the time when she took care of Joshua when he didn’t had the chance to see his family for a long time.”
Wonwoo’s late mother famously attended the boy group’s Caratland, and the K-pop idol made the crowd giggle when he said “emmoni annyeong haseyo (hello mother).”
SEVENTEEN Wonwoo Also Faced Health Woe
Wonwoo’s mother’s death came months after the K-pop idol suffered COVID-19.
In February, he tested positive for the dreaded virus after experiencing a sore throat and mild fever. He reportedly took a PCR test following the positive result of his self-test kit.
After his diagnosis, Wonwoo reportedly began self-treatment at home.
Hoshi, Seungcheol, Dokyeom, Seungkwan, and Minghao also contracted the disease.
